Dance! Dance! Dance!

Many thanks to my better half
who together with me,
 took more than 500 pictures
at the Ajodun a few weeks ago.
Here are some more of our folks
sharing the joy of it all
and dancing the night away...
Olowo ori mi...
Eni to joko e dide, e mura si jo! - Emi ati Agbeke, iyawo wa.
Cha cha to the left, y'all! Awon sisi oreke l'ewa...
Cha cha to the right...2 hops this time!
Ati agba ati omode...
The task of editing the photos
and sorting the pictures out into post - able groups has been a lot of fun,
bringing back happy memories.

Ijo ti ya! Ma a jo! Ma a jo...
Awon ara oke nko m'ole...

Emi ati igba keji mi...

Eko o ni b'aje o! Awon ara isale eko...

Daddy and me...
E maa w'ole, ma a r'ora o.

The 2nd annual ijaye - Ibadan Re-match, December 2012 edition!

Are you missing the camaraderie with each other yet?
I know I am since the festivities
 of a few weeks ago.
I thought I would get things going by reviewing that epic rematch of
the 2nd annual Ibadan - Ijaye war, 2012 edition.
To kick things off, a new trophy for the commemoration of this war
and other intertribal Yoruba wars was donated by Prof. Ayanwale.

One of the M.C'S - of Ibadan stock I might add,
had great difficulty in admitting that the Ijaye people won last year.
After much hem - mimg and haa-ing, we got the crowd together.

Some people had the dilemma of split allegiance,
being of egba (ijaye) stock but married to an Ibadan man. Which side to root for?

The Ibadan people chose their warrior as Mr Ayodele Babatunde. (above)
The ijaye people chose their warrior in the person of Mr Kola dada. (below)

And the battle stage was set.
The die was cast.

On the count of 3, the arm wrestling contest was on.

Two draws and a tie breaker round later,
the Ibadan people were finally victorious

To the Victor goes the brand new Trophy, engraved and sitting on a marble base.
The idea is to bring it to every meeting and rotate the trophy
amongst all the Ibadan people this year.

and now the Ibadan people have the brand new trophy donated by Prof. Ayanwale.

Congratulations to all who fought gallantly
and more importantly, who all came together at the end as one people.
That is the essence of awa omo Oduduwa.
We always come together as one in the end.

Warriors, your comments below.

And the winner....

...Of the proverb of the month of January 2013 is Mr Ayodele Babatunde
with proverb #100 Submission which reads
"Gele o dun bi ka moo we, ka moo we o da bi ko ye'ni."

This is my attempt to translate it literally below :

"The beauty of the  African head tie (gele)
lies not only in being able to tie it,
but in being able to tie it fittingly well."

Toto, o se bi owe, eyin agba, e dari ji ni.

Practical application? It's not just enough to be able to do something, it's about being able to do it exceedingly well.

Awon gele orisi risi (different headtie styles) follows below - I know the proverb is not really about headties but what better excuse to showcase some of our ingenious ways of styling and tying them?

O ga ju!

Red gele aso oke ...

Green gele aso oke.

Very traditional blue gele aso oke...

Ati gele bulu, ati gele pupa...
K'elenu so enu e ni ti gele yi o !
I leave it to the elders for any different take on the literal translation and to extrapolate the meaning and practical applications. Comments pls in the comments section below.
