Are you missing the camaraderie with each other yet?
I know I am since the festivities
of a few weeks ago.
of a few weeks ago.
I thought I would get things going by reviewing that epic rematch of
the 2nd annual Ibadan - Ijaye war, 2012 edition.
To kick things off, a new trophy for the commemoration of this war
and other intertribal Yoruba wars was donated by Prof. Ayanwale.
One of the M.C'S - of Ibadan stock I might add,
had great difficulty in admitting that the Ijaye people won last year.
After much hem - mimg and haa-ing, we got the crowd together.
Some people had the dilemma of split allegiance,
being of egba (ijaye) stock but married to an Ibadan man. Which side to root for?
The Ibadan people chose their warrior as Mr Ayodele Babatunde. (above)
The ijaye people chose their warrior in the person of Mr Kola dada. (below)
And the battle stage was set.
The die was cast.
On the count of 3, the arm wrestling contest was on.
Two draws and a tie breaker round later,
the Ibadan people were finally victorious
To the Victor goes the brand new Trophy, engraved and sitting on a marble base.
The idea is to bring it to every meeting and rotate the trophy
amongst all the Ibadan people this year.
and now the Ibadan people have the brand new trophy donated by Prof. Ayanwale.
Congratulations to all who fought gallantly
and more importantly, who all came together at the end as one people.
That is the essence of awa omo Oduduwa.
We always come together as one in the end.
